About the Caucus

The Bipartisan, Bicameral Congressional Optics & Photonics (O&P) Caucus is a Congressional organization that is co-chaired by Reps. Joe Morelle (D-NY) and Brian Mast (R-FL) and Senators Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) and Steve Daines (R-MT). The O&P Caucus will work to educate members of Congress and their staffs about the importance of light-based research and technologies to the economy, security and scientific excellence of the U.S.  It will also advocate for federal investment in this innovative and exciting space. The O&P Caucus will serve as a positive, proactive voice for the optics and photonics community within Congress and as a bridge to the administration.

We encourage you to ask your representative and senators to become members of the Caucus.

Click here to write to your members of Congress using a draft letter that you can customize.  Just input your zip code to access a pre-drafted letter you can edit. The system will identify your members of Congress, based on your zip code.  After you edit the letter, fill-in your contact information and hit send.

As co-leaders of the National Photonics Initiative, Optica and SPIE have worked closely with Congress over the past year to establish this Caucus. We are very excited about this new voAce for the optics and photonics community and look forward to your participation and support!

If you have any questions, please contact David Lang, Optica’s Senior Director of Global Policy & Affairs, or Brandy Dillingham, Optica’s Government Relations Manager, at publicaffairs@optica.org.
