Optica Online Industry Meeting: Photonics-based Quantum Computing

16 Jan 2024, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

There are currently several approaches to quantum computing, all of which involve photonics in some way, whether lasers for trapping ions and atoms or integrated photonics for creating and manipulating qubits. Photonics will also be essential for networking quantum computers together to reach scale. Where is each approach today and what does it need from photonics suppliers? All agree that “every photon counts” but what does that mean? This event will hear from developers about their photonics challenges.

Optica Online Industry Meeting: Free Space and Optical Wireless Communication

29 Aug 2023, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Optical free space communications dates as far back as semaphore systems used in Napoleon’s time and more recent infrared (IrDA) wireless links for use in personal computers. But the field has advanced today to provide high bandwidth connections for fixed terrestrial links, earth-to-satellite links, and communications among a constellation of satellites. The proliferation of satellite constellations brings new demands on free space systems, with added requirements for the harsh environment. Meanwhile, optical wireless has expanded to include proposals for vehicle-to-vehicle and traffic light communications, LiFi, and other visible light communications. This online event will discuss the new end-user requirements on optical free space and wireless communications systems.

Optica Photonics and Advanced Manufacturing Technologies Industry Summit at EV Group

23 May 2023, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

The nature of photonics technologies in the manufacturing industry has changed significantly over time. Historically, the size of these technologies was one of the most critical features. Researchers focused their efforts on miniaturization with more affordable costs of optical, photonics, and electronics technologies. Now, manufacturing firms have shifted to improving both the size and response times of photonics technologies. Scientists are developing smaller and faster devices, such as integrated submicron devices, to enter the space, biotechnology, and LiDAR markets - possible applications include optical datacom, MEMS, microfluidics, biosensors, astronomy, and surface sciences. Innovators have used this same sensor technology to improve self-driving vehicles' 3D capabilities and response time. The Summit aims to bring together the entire community, from manufacturing companies and their supply chain partners to end users, focusing on addressing their challenges in photonics, automotive, and consumer electronics areas. Topics of discussion include nanoimprint lithography, maskless lithography technology, metaoptics, AR waveguides, and wafer-level optics. This Summit is hosted at EVG’s headquarters in St. Florian am Inn, Austria. Together we can solve these challenges and optimize supply chain collaboration!

Optica Online Industry Meeting: Hyperspectral and Multispectral Imaging

25 Apr 2023, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Spectral imaging is the fusion of images taken at different wavelengths, and it can be performed using two different techniques: hyperspectral imaging and multispectral imaging. Hyperspectral imaging captures hundreds of narrow and contiguous spectral bands, providing detailed spectral signatures and enabling precise identification and characterization of materials. Multispectral imaging captures a smaller number of wider spectral bands, providing an overview of the scene and facilitating faster data acquisition and processing. Both are powerful techniques rich with information, with applications from agriculture and medicine to military surveillance. But it is also data-intensive, which increases the cost, and it requires substantial sophistication to take full advantage of it. The topic of this online meeting will be the opportunities and challenges to the implementation of hyperspectral and multispectral imaging.

Industry Tutorial: Ultrastable, ultraprecise, portable: Commercial ultrastable laser systems enabling high-end quantum applications

20 Apr 2023, 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM

Some of the world’s most demanding applications in quantum technology and precision metrology require ultra-stable laser sources with ultimate frequency stability and unprecedented low phase noise. Increasingly, end-users also require reliable, 24/7 laser operation that can be automated, all in a readily transportable device. After more than a decade of addressing the complexity in design and engineering to achieve all of these requirements, Menlo Systems’ Optical Reference System (ORS) has become the backbone to these demanding applications, delivering best-in-class phase noise and frequency stability in a compact, mobile device. In this webinar, we will present the key components and performance of our ORS product family, a product demonstration, and will give an insight into some of the application fields our ORS is enabling.
