Optica Online Industry Meeting: Hyperspectral and Multispectral Imaging

25 April 2023 10:00 - 12:00

Eastern Time (US & Canada) (UTC - 05:00)

Spectral imaging is the fusion of images taken at different wavelengths, and it can be performed using two different techniques: hyperspectral imaging and multispectral imaging. Hyperspectral imaging captures hundreds of narrow and contiguous spectral bands, providing detailed spectral signatures and enabling precise identification and characterization of materials. Multispectral imaging captures a smaller number of wider spectral bands, providing an overview of the scene and facilitating faster data acquisition and processing. Both are powerful techniques rich with information, with applications from agriculture and medicine to military surveillance. But it is also data-intensive, which increases the cost, and it requires substantial sophistication to take full advantage of it. The topic of this online meeting will be the opportunities and challenges to the implementation of hyperspectral and multispectral imaging.
