Katherine Calabro
Synopsys' Optical Solutions Group
Katherine Calabro PhD., is an R&D engineer in the Optical Solutions Group at Synopsys Inc. where she contributes to the development of the optical simulation software, LightTools™. Prior to joining Synopsys, she completed her Graduate degree at Boston University in the Biomedical Optics Laboratory, specializing in the modeling of light in tissue for use in diagnostic spectroscopy. She completed her undergraduate degree in Engineering Science at the Pennsylvania State University.
Katherine has been active in both OSA Local and Student groups, serving as president of the Boston University OSA Chapter, and serving (as councilor, secretary, and president) on the Council of the New England Section of the OSA. She was particularly interested in educational outreach programming during her leadership with both. For the past 9 years she has served on the Membership, Education and Development (MED) committee, first as a general member, and now as the incoming Committee Chair for 2022-2024.
Katherine lives with her husband and two young boys (ages 5 and 7) in the Boston, Massachusetts area.
