Awards & Distinctions

OSA Fellow Thomas F Deutsch earned his doctoral degree from Harvard University in 1961. From 1960 to 1974, he worked at Raytheon. In 1974, he moved to Lincoln Laboratory at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, soon followed by the Wellman Laboratory of the Massachusetts General Hospital. In 1987, he added an associate professorship at Harvard Medical School.

In 1991, he, along with Daniel J. Ehrlich and Richard M. Osgood, received OSA’s R. W. Wood Prize “for the invention of laser photochemical deposition and the application of laser induced photochemical reactions to materials processing.”

Deutsch passed away in 2006.
